For North America, the power cable must be no longer than 4.5 meters (14.76
ft.). Contact a qualified electrician for additional assistance.
System Earthing Conductor Requirements
To earth or ground a shelf (functional earth connection or protective earth con-
nection), use an earthing conductor with these following features:
•
Minimum 10 AWG solid or stranded copper wire for the 9HU shelf or
minimum 12 AWG solid or stranded copper wire for the 7HU shelf,
40CSM-OJG/3HU Shelf and 1HU shelf types
•
Terminal types for attaching to the shelf:
•
Ring lug terminal for bolt size M4 (hole diameter of 4 mm to
6 mm)
•
UL-listed two-hole lug (0.25 inch holes on 0.625 centers) e.g.
Thomas&Betts54205)
•
6.3 mm Faston wire receptacle, female type
•
Insulation color: green or green and yellow stripes
Serial Cable and Ethernet Cable Requirement
Overview
To connect management modules, a serial null modem cable or a USB cable
and Ethernet cables are required, depending on the connections to be estab-
lished.

Note
AC power cables for operation in North America, Continental Europe,
and the United Kingdom can be delivered with the equipment, but
must be ordered separately. For information about placing an order,
contact ADVA Optical Networking.
WARNING
Do not attempt to modify or use an AC power cable that is not the
exact type required.

An earthing conductor with ring lug terminals on either end is
available. It is included in the earthing kit. The earthing kit is delivered
