ADVA Optical Networking recommends installing the PDU on the top of a
rack. The PDU must provide power at nominal -48 V DC to each shelf in the
rack.
•
The equipment must be switched on or off via 22 A (7HU shelf) or 35 A
(9HU shelf) listed double-pole circuit breakers or single pole fuses, which
have to be implemented in the building wiring between the shelf's PSU input
terminals and the DC power source.
•
Each PSU of the shelf must have its own circuit breaker that must be com-
pliant to IEC/EN 60898.
•
The rack and DC PDU must be connected reliably to protective earth
ground.
•
For operation in USA and Canada only:
A readily accessible disconnecting device that is rated 35 A (9HU shelf) or
22 A (7HU shelf) must be incorporated in the building's installation between
the shelf's PSU input terminals and the DC power source.
AC Power Source Requirements
The AC-powered shelf operates either at nominal 110 V/60 Hz or 230 V/50 Hz.
Normally, each AC-powered shelf has two hot-swappable AC power supply
units (PSUs) installed, thereby providing two redundant power feeds. The AC
power supply unit is designed to work with power systems having a neutral con-
ductor. Each PSU has autoranging capability. The power requirements for each
AC-powered shelf are described in

The DC-powered shelf is not intended to be directly connected to a
centralized DC-power system.
