Chapter 9
Connecting Optical Cables
Because of the complexity of the FSP 3000R7 system, there are a lot of hard-
ware configurations. A great number of instructions for all variants of cabling
optical modules would go beyond the scope of this chapter. For this reason, this
chapter only describes in brief how to establish internal and external optical con-
nections as well as client side connections and network side connections. In
addition, it describes how to interconnect OSCMs and OSFMs in OSC net-
works.
This chapter contains the following sections:
, which provides basic information for the successful fiber-optic
cable installation.
, which tells you who this document is intended for.
, which lists the documents required for a successful
connection of optical cables.
Specialized Knowledge Required
, which informs about paying attention to laser
safety and ESD prevention when working with optical cables.
, which provides safety information to prevent bodily injury and
equipment damage.
Cleaning and Inspecting Fibers and Ports
, which describes various methods of
cleaning and inspecting optical fiber ports and connectors.
Providing Internal Optical Connections
, which lists requirements that must be
checked in advance to guarantee for a smooth optical connection.
Providing External Optical Connections
, which describes the types of traffic and
the types of optical fibers used then.
Providing Client Side Connections
, which describes how to connect optical
fibers to the client side of the network element.
Providing Network Side Connections
, which describes how to connect optical
fibers to the module’s network ports.
Interconnecting OSCM and OSFM Modules
, which provides general information
about the FSP 3000R7 OSC concept and describes how to establish optical
connections between OSCMs and OSFMs.
