FLASH UPGRADE OF THE NIU3

To upgrade the NIU3 PM using the YModem protocol, 
perform the steps listed in 

Table 5

Save the new flash file onto the computer that is being used to control the upgrade. File should have “.flh” 
extension.

Logon to the NIU3 PM using HyperTerminal.

Flow Control: None.

From the ADTRAN NIU3 menu, select the 

Software Download

 option, and press

 

E

From the Software Download menu, to begin YModem download, select option 1, press 

E

NTER

A screen appears, stating that the NIU3 PM is waiting for download and the character 

C

 appears across the 

screen to show the unit is still active. With the mouse, click on 

Transfer

, then click 

Send File

.

A screen appears requesting a filename. 

Ensure that YModem protocol is selected

 

Enter the filename where the new firmware is being stored, then click on 

Send

.

When finished, a message will appear stating the following:

Flash Upload complete, Rebooting.......Please wait.

The NIU3 PM will reboot, and the upgrade is complete.

NOTE: The cut-through relays will momentarily disconnect the NIU3 from the circuit as self-tests are being 
run.
