5.9.6 Sequenced flashing
RELIANCE IQ can be used to create different types of “running rabbit” patterns on the series circuit.
5.10 Runway Guard Light system description
The runway guard lights have built-in IQ functionality, RELIANCE IQ, and the lights shall be directly connected to the serial
transformers. The flashing is generated in the fixture and is synchronized via the SCM module that is located in the
substation. This system will work as a standalone autonomous system.
If the individual lights in the runway guard lights needs to be monitored or more than one runway guard light circuits are in
use, then a NCU is added in the substation. The NCU will serve for example the tower with status and failure alarms.
Elevated runway guard lights could be installed in the same circuits as the inset runway guard lights.
Figure 4 shows the components in a runway guard light system. The NCU is optional.

5.11 Stop Bar system description
There are two types of stopbar systems; uncontrolled or controlled. Uncontrolled stopbars are generally ON and to turn it OFF
all the stop-bars for a given low visibility runway may be temporarily turned off.
Controlled stopbar operates in conjunction with taxiway centerline lead on lights and normally use sensors on the field to
monitor movement of the aircraft. The system should also have the capability of determine the number of lights that are not
functional or whether or not the failed lights are adjacent.
The stopbar lights are either RELIANCE with inbuilt fail open technology or RELIANCE IQ with inbuilt control and monitoring
function. For a controlled stopbar the RELIANCE IQ fixture shall be used and by using a NCU the system reports back to the
tower the status and failures (for example critical adjacent failures) to the tower.
