MintyBoost® Kit
(Tin, batteries, and cable not included.)
The Adafruit MintyBoost® Kit converts the 3V from two AA batteries into a regulated 5V supply
suitable for powering devices like phones, mp3 players, and boards like the Adafruit METRO.
A complete tutorial can be found at learn.adafruit.com/minty-boost. They recommend the
following sequence for connecting the components:
1.
R5 (3.3 kΩ resistor)
2.
R2 (75 kΩ resistor)
3.
R4 (75 kΩ resistor)
4.
R1 (49.9 kΩ resistor)
5.
R3 (49.9 kΩ resistor)
6.
C1 (0.1 µF capacitor)
7.
C2 (0.1 µF capacitor)
8.
D1 (schottky diode – match the stripe on the diode to the stripe on the PCB)
9.
IC1 (the IC socket – not the IC itself)
10. L1 (10 µH inductor)
11. C3 (220 µF electrolytic capacitor – match the polarity as shown on the PCB)
12. C4 (220 µF electrolytic capacitor – match the polarity as shown on the PCB)
13. Wires for battery holder (red is +, black is -)
14. USB type A female jack
Insert the IC into the socket, place batteries in the battery holder, and use your multimeter to
verify the regulator is giving you 5V between the first and last lead on the USB header.
Assembly your own USB charger,
powered by two AA batteries.
