Maintenance Instructions
Warning:
The information contained within this document is intended to be an aid to qualified metering
personnel. It is not intended to replace the extensive training necessary to install or remove
meters from service. Any work on or near energized meters, or other metering equipment
presents the danger of electrical shock. All work on these products must be performed by
qualified industrial electricians and metering specialists only. All work must be done in
accordance with local utility safety practices and procedures.
8.1 Recommended Procedures
Meter Testing Tools
The SGM3000 Series meters are equipped with light-emitting diodes (LED) for accuracy
verification and a liquid crystal display with test displays.
8.1.1.1 Visible LEDs
The SGM3000 Series meters are equipped with 2 visible light emitting diodes (LED). There is an
LED for absolute active energy and absolute reactive energy.
These LEDs are the source of watt hour and varh calibration pulses. Each calibration pulse is
equal to the value assigned to Kt (watt hours or var hours). The duration of each output pulse is
approximately 25 milliseconds.

8.1.1.2 Optical Port LED
The SGM3000 Series meter also includes an Infra-red l pulse output LED that emits calibration
pulses until the meter detects the presence of optical port PSEM communications. This LED is
