Optical Port
The SGM3000 Series meters have an optical port for local communication. The optical port is
located on the face of the meter.
The optical port will be available in the following two standards:
•
The IEC 62056
–
21 optical communication interface
•
The ANSI C12.18 optical communication interface
The type of optical port will be selected prior to production and will be a factory build option.
The interface supports a baud rate with minimum of 9,600 bps and a maximum of 19,200 bps.
The optical port supports performance levels of the download of 90 days of 30 minute load
profile data in less than 35 seconds per channel.

Serial Port
The SGM3000 Series meters have the option for 1 physical serial port. The serial port will be a
factory build option within an AMI module. Note that the serial port option will consume the
AMI module interface.
The serial port supports either RS232 or RS485
The RS232 serial port - supports simple three wire (Rx, Tx, and GND) interface without any
handshaking signals.
The RS485 serial port supports half-duplex two wire communication and multi-drop to adjacent
meters.
