AlphaTRAK Lancing Device
LANCING DEVICE INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
For use with
AlphaTRAK Blood Glucose Monitoring System
from Zoetis Inc.
Intended Use: To obtain capillary blood samples for blood glucose testing.
This lancing device is a simple, reliable way to acquire a drop of capillary
blood for testing. It includes a system to adjust the depth of puncture to
accommodate multiple testing sites.
CAUTION:
To reduce the chance of infection:
• Never share a lancet or lancing device.
• Always use a new sterile lancet. Lancets are for single use only.
5. Hold the lancet firmly in place with one hand; use your other hand to twist
off the rounded top.
6. Replace the cap until it snaps or clicks into place. Be careful not to touch the
exposed needle on the lancet.
13. Bring the AlphaTRAK meter and test strip to the blood drop. Gently touch
only one side of the test strip to the blood sample. Ensure the sample
touches the thin side of the test strip in the black application area.
Capillary action will pull the sample into the test strip.

7. The lancing device offers four different settings. Level 1 is the shallowest
depth; Level 4 is the deepest. Move the dial to the desired setting as shown
in the depth indicator window.
14. Snap the cap of the lancing device off at an angle.
Read all instructions for the AlphaTRAK Blood Glucose Monitoring System and
the lancing device carefully before testing. For additional instructions consult
your veterinarian/veterinary surgeon.
Lancing Device Instructions For Use:
To obtain a drop of blood:
1. Gather supplies needed: lancing device, lancet.
2. Wash hands with warm, soapy water. Dry thoroughly.
3. Snap the cap of the lancing device off at an angle.
8. The clear cap allows for better observation of the testing site. Greater
pressure of the lancing device against the testing site can be used to
increase the puncture depth.
9. Pull the dark cocking handle out until it clicks. (You may have already cocked
the handle in Step 4; this is okay.) You are now ready to perform a blood
glucose test.
15. To prevent an accidental needle stick place the lancet safety cap on a
hard surface. Carefully stick the lancet tip into the safety cap.
16. Push the release button to allow access to the white clip that holds the
lancet. Pinch the white clip that holds the lancet until the lancet falls out
(or pull the lancet straight out of the holder.)
4. Insert a new lancet firmly into the white lancet holder cup. (Pushing the
lancet into the cup may cock the device; this is okay.)
Note:
Do not share or re-use lancets.
10. Prior to testing make sure the testing site is clean and dry and select a
comfortable and well-lit location for you and your pet.
11. Warming and massaging the test site will encourage good blood flow.
12. Hold the lancing device firmly, or the clear cap, against the selected testing
site. Push the release button to obtain blood drop. Applying continued
pressure to the test site, may help with the formation of a blood drop.
17. The rules for disposing of medical products and sharp objects vary so be
sure you know what is appropriate in your area. Discard the used lancet
properly in a puncture-resistant container.
18. Replace the cap to prevent loss of cap.
Use isopropyl alcohol (available in the USA) or soap and water to wipe the
outside of the lancing device. If you wish, remove the cap, wash it in warm
water and rinse well.
Important:
Do not immerse the body of the lancing device in water or any
other liquid.
CAUTION:
Federal law (USA) restricts this device to sale by or on the order of
a licensed veterinarian.
