5 Functional Description
The functioning welding torch system

and complete cable assembly

All elements together form an operating unit which provides an arc for welding
when supplied with the appropriate consumables. The welding wire required
for welding is fed by the welding torch system
ABIROB
®
W
all the way to the
contact tip. The contact tip transmits the welding current to the welding wire,
producing an arc between the welding wire and work-piece.
The light arc and the molten pool are protected by the inert gas (MIG) and the
active gas (MAG).
5.1 Torch neck
The standard torch necks of types ABIROB

Special designs will be manufactured upon request depending on the
application.
5.2 Mount
The complete fastener is used to attach the cable assembly
ABIROB
®
W
to the
robot via the CAT robot mount.
5.3 Cable assembly
The liquid-cooled cable assembly provides the welding torch with all
components required for welding such as welding current, shielding gas and
coolant.
6 Putting into operation
DANGER
Risk of injury due to unexpected start-up.
For the entire duration of maintenance, servicing, dismounting and repair
work, the following instructions must be adhered to:
• Switch off the power supply.
• Close off the compressed air supply.
• Disconnect all electrical connections.
NOTICE
• The welding torch system may only be put into operation by trained
personnel.
