9.2.2. Stored-energy spring operating
mechanism
Carry out the functional testing of the operating
mechanism is to be performed after 5,000 oper-
ating cycles or after 4 years.
Before the test, open the circuit-breaker and carry
out the following operations:
– for withdrawable circuit-breakers, put the cir-
cuit-breaker in the isolated for test position
– for fixed circuit-breakers, cut off the power
supply to the medium voltage circuit.
Note
Insulate the working area and make it safe, fol-
lowing the safety regulations specified in the IEC/
DIN VDE Standards.
Aim of functional testing
– With the circuit-breaker disconnected from the
load, carry out several opening and closing
operations.
– Turn the power to the spring charging motor off
(if fitted) and discharge the springs by closing
and opening the circuit-breaker using the clos-
ing and opening pushbuttons.
– Visually examine the state of lubrication of the
isolating contacts, sliding surfaces, etc.
– Check correct electrical and mechanical op-
eration of the various devices (for example,
the interlocks).
9.2.3. Circuit-breaker pole
No inspection is required apart from what was
specified in par. 9.2.1.
9.3. Servicing
9.3.1. Interruption devices in general
If cleaning is found to be necessary during in-
spections as specified in par. 9.2.1., use the the
following procedure:
• insulate the working area and make it safe
by following the safety rules specified in the
IEC/DIN VDE Standards.
• general cleaning of the surfaces:
– dry and eliminate any light deposits or dirt
using a soft dry cloth;
– more resistant deposits of dirt can be re-
moved using a slightly alkaline household
cleanser or Rivolta BWR 210 type detergent.
• cleaning the insulating surfaces and conduc-
tive components:
– light dirt: with Rivolta BWR 210 detergent;
– resistant dirt: with cold 716 type detergent.
After cleaning rinse thoroughly with clean water
and dry carefully.
Note
Only use halogen-free detergents and never
1.1.1-trichloroethane, trichlorethylene or carbon
tetrachloride!
9.3.2. Actuator and transmission system
Servicing must be carried out after:
– 10,000 operations for the actuator (snap-on box)
– 15,000 operations for the shock absorber.
The other parts of the transmission system
(shaft, main levers, locking rings, etc.) are
maintenance-free up to 30,000 operations.
Note
Dismantling and replacement of the complete
operating mechanism (snap-on box) can only be
carried out by ABB personnel or by qualified and
specially trained personnel, especially for the
necessary adjustments.
Servicing details
• Turn off the spring charging motor power sup-
ply and manually discharge the operating
mechanism springs by closing and opening the
circuit-breaker.
• Replace parts subject to high climatic or
mechanical stresses after 10,000 operations
(contact an ABB service centre).
Note
These operations can only be carried out by ABB
personnel or suitably qualified and specially
trained personnel.
