Planning the electrical installation
Contents of this chapter
This chapter contains the instructions that you must follow when selecting the generator,
cables, protections, cable routing and way of operation for the converter system.
Note:
The installation must always be designed and made according to applicable local
laws and regulations. ABB does not assume any liability whatsoever for any installation
which breaches the local laws and/or other regulations. Furthermore, if the recommendations
given by ABB are not followed, the converter may experience problems that the warranty
does not cover.
Selecting the grid disconnecting device
The converter is equipped with a main circuit breaker as standard. The breaker is
withdrawable: when withdrawn (cranked out), the breaker operates as a main disconnector
for the converter. However, the withdrawn main breaker does not isolate the grid cable
terminals of the converter from the grid. Equip the installation with another disconnecting
device placed in between the power grid and the grid cable terminals of the converter. For
example, the main breaker of the grid transformer could also be used as the extra
disconnecting device if it meets the requirements for a disconnecting device.
