Connecting voltage to input terminals and auxiliary circuit
Make sure that it is safe to connect voltage. Make sure that:
• nobody is working on the unit or circuits that are wired from outside into the cabinets.
• covers of the motor terminal boxes are on.
Close the circuit breakers supplying the auxiliary circuits [F22], etc.).
Remove any temporary grounding set (if installed).
Close the cabinet doors.
Close the main breaker of the supply transformer.
Close the auxiliary voltage switch [Q21].
Setting the supply unit parameters
Supply modules with C188 (direct-on-line cooling fan):
• Set bit 13 of parameter 195.20 HW options word 1.
If your supply unit consists of one module:
• Check the correct voltage ranges by parameter 195.01 Supply voltage.
• Reboot the control unit by parameter 196.08 Control board boot.
If your supply unit consists of more than one module:
• Set parameter 195.12 accordingly. For the settings, see table on page
. For setting this
parameter, you need a service level pass code. To obtain the pass code, contact your ABB
representative.
• Reboot the control unit by parameter 196.08 Control board boot. Voltage ranges suitable for the
rating IDs selected by parameter 195.12 are shown in parameter 195.01 selections.
• Check the correct voltage ranges by parameter 195.01 Supply voltage.
• Reboot the control unit again by parameter 196.08 Control board boot.
Make sure that the supply unit is in the remote control mode to enable control of the supply unit with
the operating switch [S21]. Use Loc/Rem key of the control panel to change the mode.
Switching the supply unit on
WARNING!
If the drive is equipped with a brake chopper and resistor(s), make sure there
are inverters connected to the intermediate circuit before closing the main contactor. A rule of
thumb: The sum capacitance of the inverters connected must be at least 50% of the sum
capacitance of all inverters.
If there is not enough capacitive load at start, the DC voltage may overshoot the overvoltage limit,
causing immediate start of the brake unit and continuous supply for it by the supply unit. Constant
braking will overload brake choppers and resistors and cause overheating.
If the supply unit is equipped with a main breaker [Q1]:
• Unlock the withdrawn breaker and rack it in.
If the supply unit is equipped with a main switch-disconnector [Q1]:
• Unlock the switch and turn it into the closed position.
Turn the operating switch [S21] to the On position. The DSU receives the Run enable signal and
closes the main contactor [Q2] / main breaker [Q1].
On-load checks
Check that the supply module cooling fan rotates freely in the right direction, that is, sucks air through
the door grating (put a paper sheet on the grating to verify).
