Information about autonomy in standby mode and during conversation
The storage batteries’ energy consumption rate depends on the properties of the access points
(AP). Make sure that the AP supports the WMM (Wifi Multimedia) function, also referred to as
WME or 802.11e, as well as the ADSD (Asynchronous Power Save Delivery) function. Moreover,
the DTIM (Delivery-Traffic-Indicator-MAP) function must be configurable. The WMM and DTIM
functions optimise the autonomy both in standby and conversation modes. We recommend that
you set DTIM to 5; on a network characterised by a heavier broadcast load, it may also be wise to
use lower values in order to reduce idle time.
On networks displaying a heavier broadcast load (for example 5 packets or more per second), the
idle time is less effective because each of these packets must be received and evaluated by the
different WLAN systems. This load is more often due to ARP requests, which are sent on the
WLAN without being filtered. On larger networks, it is advisable to make a separation on a bigger
network layer, for example via IP routing. The capacity and autonomy of the storage batteries of
other WLAN systems are thus improved.
If these characteristics are not supported, the autonomy of the storage batteries may be reduced
by half. The settings of the handset’s power saving mode are available in the WLAN profile
information.
If the quality of the link is bad (because the handset is far from the AP), the autonomy in
conversation and standby modes is reduced. It is also reduced if the speaker or tone volume is
high, if the key and screen backlight function is often used or if the buzzer is activated. Finally, if
the length of the RTP packets received by the correspondent is low, the autonomy in conversation
mode is also reduced.
10.1.3
Range
The range of the WLAN handset is lower than that of the fixed WLAN peripherals of a PC used
solely for data transfer. In fact, data traffic tolerates more packet losses than voice
communications. Therefore, make sure that voice communication starts with a signal intensity of –
70 dBm on the AP. You can check the AP signal intensity on the site survey screen (see this
screen). The range may be limited by reinforced-concrete walls, microwave ovens, obstacles, floor
heating systems, etc.

Protection through secret code
Since input errors in some menus may prevent the phone from working properly, various system
parameters are protected through a secret code. By default, this code is 22222. Change the secret
code if necessary.
