2.2. Initial Start-up - The Control Valve and the Pressure Reducing Application

1.

Make sure that the upstream and the downstream isolation valves are closed [

12a

] and [

12b

].

2.

Turn off the manual

2

-way ball valve at the downstream [

3

B] port of the valve.

3.

Slowly open the upstream isolation valve [

12a

].

4.

Turn on the manual

2

-way ball valves of the upstream [

3

A] and the downstream [

3

B] ports of the valve.

Adjusting the two required downstream pressure limits:

5.

Slowly open the downstream isolation valve [

12b

], water starts to flow to the pipeline and creates a downstream

flow demand.

6.

Adjust the low pressure pilot valve [

5

] first, then the high pressure pilot valve [

4

], as follows:

Low Pressure pilot valve adjustment

7.

Do  NOT  turn  the  controller  on,  and  do  NOT  energize  the  solenoid  valve  [

7

],  and  do  NOT  override  the  solenoid

position manually.

8.

Increase (or decrease) the low pressure pilot valve [

5

] set point as per pilot valve adjustment steps A to C below.

High Pressure pilot valve adjustment

9.

Turn ON the controller and set the procedure to activate the solenoid valve [

7

], or override the solenoid position

manually.

10.

Increase (or decrease) the high pressure pilot valve [

4

] set point as per pilot valve adjustment steps A to C below.

Pilot valve adjustment principle

A.

To increase the downstream pressure limit (the set point), turn the adjusting bolt of the required pilot valve [High
or Low pressure pilot) clockwise, ¼ turn at a time, allowing

2

-

5

seconds between turns for the valve to respond.

Monitor  the  pressure  gauge  [

6

]  and  continue  the  process  until  the  required  downstream  pressure  limit  is

achieved.

B.

To  decrease  the  downstream  pressure,  turn  the  adjusting  bolt  of  the  pilot  valve  counterclockwise,  ¼  turn  at  a
time, allowing

2

-

5

seconds between turns for the valve to respond.  Monitor the pressure gauge [

6

] and continue

the process until the required downstream pressure limit is achieved

C.

Prevent the adjustment bolt of the pilot valve from turning by turning its locking nut clockwise until it touches the
pilot valve spring cover.  Tighten the locking nut carefully.

Valve Operation Modes

To open the valve manually, open the downstream ball valve [

3

b] and close the upstream ball valve [

3

a].

Please note:

By doing so you will have no control over the downstream pressure; it is possible that your system

will be exposed to excess pressure. The valve cannot fully open when the control loop is of a two-way type.

To close the valve manually, open the upstream ball valve [

3

a] and close the downstream ball valve [

3

b].

To maintain the preset downstream pressure, open both ball valves [

3

a &

3

b].

Please note

: the controller determines which of the two hydraulic pilot valves are in operation mode.
