Remote Management Facility
If you use a remote management facility, such as an SNMP manager,
you should refer to the manual(s) accompanying your remote
management software for details of how to proceed. In some cases,
you may have to configure the management module locally to redirect
traps to the remote station.
Setting up SNMP Management Communications
Protocol Addresses
SNMP communications are directed to their destination with IP and
SLIP addresses depending upon the protocol used.
If you are unsure of the addresses allocated to you, consult your
network manager.
If you are the manager of a network that has no connections to the
outside world, you may not be aware of these addresses. If you have no
connection to other networks and are not using IP protocol for
anything other than network management, you may use arbitrary
numbers. To comply with the expected format, we suggest you use
numbers in the series: 192.168.100.X where X is a number between 0
and 255. Use 192.168.101.X for the SLIP address. Remember that no
two addresses may be the same. If at a later point, you connect to the
outside world, you must re-configure all your IP and SLIP addresses that
you allocated arbitrarily, to comply with those you have been
allocated. Otherwise your outside communications will not operate!
A subnet mask is a filtering system for IP and SLIP addresses. We
suggest you use a general mask, (255.255.255.0), to tie in with the
advice above.
Setting up
If you want to manage the MSH hub using Transcend or a similar SNMP
Network Manager, complete the following steps locally:
1
Select the appropriate MAC, if not managing through Ethernet.
