I ntroduction
3Com’s FDDI m odules a re intelligent devices. Each has a VT100
management interface, the use of which is described in the appropriate
manual . The management module allows you read some details of the
devices through the display panel and its VT100 screens.
Using the Display Panel
The Physical Configuration menu will display:
Module type.
H/W version.
S/W version.
Power requirement.
Services.
The Chassis Services menu will display the MAC, IP addresses of the
intelligent device.
Using the VT100 Interface
All the fields on the Module Configuration screen will be filled with the
relevant information. If an intelligent device is selected from the
Module Configuration menu, the Address Table will be displayed with
the appropriate MAC IP addresses.
The Facility Table screen will display the backplane connections, and
the SWITCH button will allow you to change the device to another
backplane.
Selection of the MANAGE button (from the Module Configuration
menu) will pass control to the intelligent devices. Thereafter, you
manage the intelligent device directly from your SNMP network
management station. Now, management is that described in the
application’s user guide. To return control to the management module,
press [Ctrl P].
Downloading a new image of an intelligent device’s management
agent is not supported by the MSH management agent. You can
upgrade the image using your SNMP network management station.
