Introducing the P-873HNU(P)-51B

1.1 Overview

The P-873HNU(P)-51B is a wireless VDSL router and Gigabit Ethernet gateway. It has two DSL
ports and a Gigabit Ethernet port for super-fast Internet access over analog (POTS) telephone lines.
If the DSLAM of the ISP supports bonding function, the two DSL ports on the P-873HNU(P)-51B can
be connected to two separate telephone jacks to provide increased throughput at longer distances.
The VDSL Router supports both Packet Transfer Mode (PTM) and Asynchronous Transfer Mode
(ATM). It is backward compatible with ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2+ in case VDSL is not available. The
VDSL Router also provides IEEE 802.11b/g/n wireless networking to extend the range of your
existing wired network without additional wiring. The P-873HNUP models also include Home
Phoneline Networking Alliance (HPNA) capability.

Please refer to the following description of the product name format.

• “H” denotes an integrated 4-port switch (hub).
• “N” denotes 802.11n draft 2.0. The “N” models support 802.11n wireless connection mode.
• “U” denotes a USB port. The VDSL Router supports a flash disk (FAT16/FAT32 format), which FTP

clients can access.

• “P” denotes a device that has Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HPNA) capability.
• Model names ending in “1”, for example P-873HNUP-51, denote a device that works over the

analog telephone system, POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service). The DSL RJ-14 connects to your
ADSL-enabled telephone lines.

Only use firmware for your VDSL Router’s specific model. Refer to the
label on the bottom of your VDSL Router.

1.2 Ways to Manage the VDSL Router

Use any of the following methods to manage the VDSL Router.

• Web Configurator. This is recommended for everyday management of the VDSL Router using a

(supported) web browser.

• TR-069. This is an auto-configuration server used to remotely configure your device.
