Aut hent icat ion is t he pr ocess of det er m ining w ho a user  is and validat ing access t o t he Swit ch. The
Swit ch can aut hent icat e user s w ho t r y t o log in based on user  account s configur ed on t he Swit ch
it self. The Sw it ch can also use an ext er nal aut hent icat ion ser ver  t o aut hent icat e a lar ge num ber  of
user s.

Aut hor izat ion is t he pr ocess of det er m ining w hat  a user  is allowed t o do. Differ ent  user  account s
m ay have higher  or  low er  pr ivilege levels associat ed w it h t hem . For exam ple, user A m ay have t he
r ight  t o cr eat e new  login account s on t he Sw it ch but  user  B cannot . The Swit ch can aut hor ize user s
