advisable to remove the eyepiece to see the size of the diaphragm aperture through
the eyepiece tube. The diaphragm aperture must be adjusted until it is a little smaller
than the objective aperture.
Note:
The diaphragm aperture does not change light intensity; for this use the knob
placed at the left side of the base of microscope.

If needed put the filter in the filter holder.

Adjust the interpupillary distance (distance between eyepieces) before starting
observation. Moreover, it will be necessary firstly to focus image with one of the
eyepieces and then adjust the diopter correction of the other eyepiece until the image
is also focused with this eyepiece.
f.
Start observation always with low magnification objectives 4x and 10x. To avoid the
objective touching the sample, turn the coarse focusing knob to lift the mechanical
stage until it reaches a few millimeters from the objective. The turn slowly the fine
focusing knob to focus the image.
g.
Once the image is well focused change to the next higher magnification objective and
adjust focus by turning only fine focusing knob. To change the objective turn the
nosepiece until hearing a “click” sound and make sure it is well centered in the light
beam. Always try to change the objective by holding the nosepiece not the objective
itself; take also into account the height of each objective since the 100x objective is
longer and it could touch the sample.
h.
When using 100x objective, move the condenser to the highest position and use a
drop of immersion oil; avoid the formation of bubbles that could affect observation of
sample. The 100x objective must be wiped off after each use with a lens paper to
remove all the remains of immersion oil.
i.
When turning the coarse and fine focusing knobs to move the stage, if it is too hard or
too loosen it will be necessary to adjust the tension adjustment ring. The tension
adjustment ring is placed in the right coarse focusing knob.
j.
Move the sample on the stage by using the translation knobs to study the different
structures of the specimen.
5.
Maintenance
a.
The microscope must be installed in a dry, clean and free of acid and alkaline vapors
space; avoid the direct exposure to direct sunlight.
