4.2.5 Other Site Requirements
Select a site where liquids or objects will not fall onto the equipment and that foreign objects will
not be drawn into the ventilation holes.
4.3 Power Requirements
The MX250 uses ac power as its primary power source. You can connect the BPS12 to the MX250
to provide continued operation in the event of loss of ac power.
Warning
The MX250 is inoperable when ac power fails and you have not installed a battery
backup system, or when the power of the battery backup system is exhausted.
4.3.1 AC input
The total ac power input on the MX250 is 100 W, which includes power for ringing and battery
feed to analog telephones and fax machines.
The MX250 has a universal ac input that you can connect to a standard electric outlet (100 Vac to
240 Vac, 47 Hz to 63 Hz).
4.3.2 –48 V Battery
Connecting a BPS12 battery power supply to the MX250 continues operation in the absence of ac.
Zultys recommends using the BPS12 as the external supply in addition to connecting to the ac
power source. Connect to the BPS12 as described in the BPS12 Hardware Manual . The BPS12
battery unit sold by Zultys requires 3 RU of rack space and a separate ac source.
Warning
You must use the BPS12 battery system provided by Zultys, or use a battery source
that is supplied by a Listed or Certified power supply providing SELV power. This
is required because the –48 Vdc directly powers the SELV of the system.

Important
Zultys strongly recommends use of the BPS12 for all installations of the MX250.
During power outages, this provides a dc source from which the MX250 can
detect capacitive levels. This allows the MX250 time to initiate a proper shutdown
of its database.
4.3.3 Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS)
Although connecting the ac input to a UPS allows the system to operate during a power outage,
Zultys does not recommend this solution since most UPS devices do not provide the longevity
demanded by telecommunications applications. Most UPS devices are scaled too small and can
only providing a short standby duration.
