Instructions for Stove Top

Water Heater 5110 & 6190

SET-UP
1. Select a clean flat surface clear of leaves or other flammable materials. An area protected from wind is best. Securely
position Stove Top water heater on stove grate above gas burner(s) see photo 1. Keep hoses away from stove burners and
hot areas. Make sure Stove Top is positioned so flame is at least 1 inch away from any housing wall. It may be necessary to
turn down gas valve and reposition Stove Top to keep flame safely harnessed within heater housing.
2. Load 4 “NEW” Energizer
™
D-cell alkaline batteries into battery case. Check pump operation by holding pump in hand
while pushing red ON/OFF button on battery case. If pump fails to operate check that batteries are good and correctly
installed, then turn pump switch OFF. If pump still fails, remove batteries and bend battery contacts upward to ensure good
contact. Squeeze any kinks from all hoses (low water flows are usually due to weak batteries).
PUMPING WATER
1. With pump switched OFF, carefully submerge entire pump in water source (we suggest using a water bucket or the Zodi
case). If your carry case is punctured or torn, use a plastic bag inside the case to serve as a waterproof liner. Push the red
ON/OFF button switch on battery case to ON to establish water flow from shower head. If using a water container, place
shower head in container to conserve water. Water should flow from shower head in 20 seconds, if not, check for a kinked
pump hose or shower hose. If water still fails to spray, release vapor by applying suction to the shower head. Do not remove
pump from water when heater is on. See optional garden hose adapter at www.zodi.com to use heater without pump.
NOTE - In natural water sources DO NOT place the pump directly on sandy river or lake bottom. Place the pump on top of
pebbles or rocks. Place small rock on hose near pump to prevent tides from pushing pump onto shore (make sure rock does
not pinch hose). In silty water place pump inside sock. Clean pump by removing pump cap.
HEATING
1. AFTER cold water is flowing from Stove Top water heater shower head, safely ignite burner on your gas stove. Water
MUST be flowing from Stove Top shower head BEFORE igniting stove. Keep hands, face and clothing clear of system during
ignition and heating periods. In windy conditions, shield stove from wind. Water must always be flowing from shower head
when heater is on. Adjust gas valve to keep flame at least 1 inch away from any housing wall.
DO NOT HEAT INDOORS. DO NOT IGNITE HEATER INSIDE TENTS, RVs, HOMES OR OTHER CONFINED AREAS.
CAUTION: SYSTEM GETS HOT. KEEP CHILDREN CLEAR WHEN OPERATING. USE ONLY OUTDOORS IN WELL
VENTILATED AREAS. THIS DEVICE GENERATES CARBON MONOXIDE WHEN OPERATING. THIS DEVICE GETS
VERY HOT WHEN OPERATING. IMPROPER USE CAN RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH. ZODI OUTBACK GEAR LLC
NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR IMPROPER USE.
NOTE - DO NOT TURN OFF WATER PUMP OR REMOVE WATER PUMP FROM WATER WHEN HEATER IS ON OR
SERIOUS INJURY MAY RESULT. WATER MUST ALWAYS BE FREELY FLOWING FROM SHOWER HEAD WHEN
HEATER IS ON. IF WATER PRESSURE DROPS OR WATER TEMPERATURE SUDDENLY INCREASES DURING USE,
IMMEDIATELY POINT SHOWER HEAD AWAY FROM BODY AND SAFELY TURN OFF PROPANE HEATER. IGNITE
ONLY AFTER PROPER WATER FLOW HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED.
2. Allow system to operate for 1 minute before checking water temperature. If water is too hot, turn down propane valve on
gas stove, wait another 30 seconds and re-check water temperature. If water is not hot enough adjust gas valve or recycle
water in container by placing the shower head in the same water container as the pump. In only a minute or two, the water
spraying from the shower head will be a comfortable temperature. Adjust temperature with shower head in the position you
wish to use it, the water temperature will change slightly upon raising or lowering the shower head. Under certain conditions
you can obtain hotter water by turning gas valve down.
SHOWERING
1. The Stove Top water heater is now ready for showering or cleaning up. The shower hose is extra long for your
convenience. Stand a safe distance away from the stove during showering periods. Do not allow water to spray on Stove Top
water heater or stove. Never have the shower hose so tight that it may cause the Stove Top water heater to reposition on
stove or stove to tip over. Do NOT pollute fresh water sources with soaps etc. Instead, collect water in a bucket or Zodi case
and shower safe distance away from streams. For extra privacy, use the optional self-supporting Zodi Hut Shower Enclosure
and Hands Free Shower Pole. (www.zodi.com)
NOTE - Do Not turn off water pump or remove water pump from water source when stove heater is on or serious injury may
result. Water must always be freely flowing from shower head when Stove Top water heater is positioned on stove when
stove burner is on. If water pressure drops or water temperature suddenly increases during use, immediately point shower
head away from body and safely turn off stove. Ignite stove only after proper water flow has been reestablished.
SHUTDOWN
1. To shutdown, turn off stove heater and allow water to continue flowing for 20 seconds. Shut off water pump. Allow system
to cool before handling. Be careful that carry handle is not hot. Allow water to drain from hoses and heating coil by resting
Stove Top water heater on its left side for 20 seconds. Remove batteries during off season. Prevent damage or puncture to
soft case by wrapping heater (after system has cooled) in towel before placing inside soft case.
