SECTION 4C - CALL COUNTING
The Call Counting option assists the system operator in recording paging
activity for all Users maintained in the Paging Terminal. Each User is
allotted two counters in the battery protected memory. One counter records
the number of pages sent to that User and the other counts the total number
of message characters sent to the User. In this way the system operator can
monitor the amount of paging traffic handled by the terminal and can charge
each subscriber according to usage.
Counts are stored in non-volatile memory, so that they are retained even
during power loss to the Model 16. Up to 65,535 pages and 65,535 message
characters can be counted for each User. When the counting limit has been
reached for pages or characters, no more will be counted. This prevents the
counters from rolling over to zero.
Maintenance of the Call Counting records is straightforward. User records
can be displayed and cleared individually or in groups. Typically the
system operator would read the counts out periodically, perhaps every
month, then clear them to zero to start a new billing period.
Because there are millions of possible digital paging capcodes, the
Terminal counts only those calls that are placed to Users. What that means
is that any page involving a Full Capcode, placed either in the Keyboard
Paging mode or a Data Entry Device Paging mode, is not counted.
Call Counting maintenance is accessed from the User Programming Menu. Type
В to receive the Call Counting Menu.

Input a letter (CR to exit):
Display Counts (D)
The stored counts for any User can be displayed to the screen. Press
the space bar to stop and start the scroll; press CR to leave Display.
Clear counts (Z)
Either User counts or Message counts can be selectively cleared. This
will probably be performed every billing period. To clear counts
within a range of Users, enter the number of the first User and the
last User that should be cleared. To clear counts for a single User,
enter that User as the first entry and a CR for the second entry. The
range is inclusive and each number is entered separately and followed
by CR.
