SECTION ЗА - KEYBOARD PAGING
FUNCTION
The Function prompt wants a number corresponding to the function code that
will be used to alert the pager. POCSAG functions are 0-3 only and Golay
functions are 0-9 only (see "Section 8 - Reference" for what the functions
cause the pager to do). The function is entered with CR.
MESSAGE
The Message Prompt is given if the selected Paging Format is programmed for
a non-zero message length and the Function permits tone and display paging.
Either a numeric or an alphanumeric message may be entered, as described
previously. If no message is entered, the Terminal will send a Tone Only
page.
ALPHA (Y/N)?
The Operator must specify whether the message just typed should be encoded
as an alphanumeric (type Y for Yes) or as a numeric (type N for No) page.
Sometimes this may seem obvious, but other times it is not. For instance, a
simple telephone number could be encoded either way but the pager will not
decode it correctly unless this question is answered correctly.
As a general rule, always type N when paging numeric display pagers and
always type Y when paging alphanumeric display pagers.
PAGE NOW (Y/N)?
The Operator is always given the choice of batching the call normally (type
N for No) or sending the call immediately as a Priority page (type Y for
Yes). Voice pages are always sent immediately regardless the answer to this
question.
