erence area. See Operating Instructions for METROTOM OS.
Selecting the filter
Purpose of a filter
Filters are used to reduce reconstruction artifacts caused by beam hard-
ening. Reduction of artifacts can increase the measuring accuracy. How-
ever, filters reduce the radiation intensity and the filter thickness must
therefore be adapted to the workpiece.
NOTE
Filters also provide a protective function to the detector. During pro-
longed operation at high voltage and high power, detector components
are subject to excessive stress. This reduces the sensitivity of the sensi-
tive layers and irreparably damages electronic components.
Recommendation: If you intend to work on the METROTOM for more
than 4 days a week and more than 15 hours per day at voltages ex-
ceeding 180 kV and power levels exceeding 250 W, you should use a
copper filter with a thickness of at least 1 mm.
