REMOTE KEYPAD UNIT (RKU)
INSTALLING THE BATTERY
To install the 9-volt alkaline battery in the RKU, remove
the battery access cover on the back of the unit and
snap the connector onto the battery terminals as shown
in Figure 2. Replace the battery access cover. Also see
Low Battery Power section at the end of this manual.
CONNECTING TO THE VSOP DRIVE
The Remote Keypad Unit is supplied with an intercon-
nection cable that allows it to communicate with an VSOP
Drive. One end of the cable connects to connector J22
on the VSOP Drive and the other connects to Jl on the
RKU. These connections are fully isolated, however
CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WHEN CONNECT-
ING CABLE AS LETHAL VOLTAGES CAN BE
PRESENT. Refer to Figure 3.
The Remote Keypad Unit can be connected and dis-
connected to the VSOP Drive at any time, however
compatibility varies with different VSOP Drive soft-
ware revisions (displayed in parameter 02-RVLVL of
every VSOP Drive). Table 1 below summarizes the
RKU operation with the various software versions of
VSOP Drive. Refer to the VSOP Drive Operation and
Maintenance manual, for more information.
Hazard of electrical shock. Discon-
nect power to the VSOP Drive before
working on this drive. Dangerous
voltages exist in the VSOP Drive un-
til the STATUS Indicator is off.

INDICATIONS
When the Remote Keypad Unit is first turned on, all
segments in the LCD display will illuminate for about 2
seconds and the STATUS indicator will flash red. If the
RKU is not connected to an VSOP Drive the display
shown in Figure 5 will appear indicating that the option
is not communicating with the drive. This indication will
also indicate if the RKU is properly connected but the
drive does not have power applied to it.

When the Remote Keypad Unit is connected to an
VSOP Drive that has AC power applied, the display
will show the current operating status of the drive. That
is, if the VSOP drive is in the operating mode it will
display the current operating frequency and direction.
For any other fault codes, contact the factory for assistance.

TYPICAL USAGE
Typical usage of the Remote Keypad Unit is to view
fault data. The following steps should be followed to
view fault data.
1. Install the Remote Keypad Unit as directed in the
previous section.
2. Press the PROG/ON button. The frequency of the
drives output should be displayed.
3. Press and hold the SHIFT button then press the
PROG button. The parameter number shall appear
in the upper left hand corner of the display.
4. Use the UP & DOWN arrow buttons to select pa-
rameter number 7, 8,and 9.
5. Press the SHIFT button twice to turn the RKU off.
Parameter number 7 is the location for the fault code of
the last fault. Parameter number 8 is the location for the
fault code of the second fault. Parameter number 9 is
