TROUBLESHOOTING

Check:

1. main, signal system, and radiator fan

motor fuses

2. battery
3. main switch
4. radiator fan motor
5. thermo switch
6. temperature sender
7. wiring

(the entire cooling system)

NOTE:

• Before troubleshooting, remove the

following part(-s):

1) rider seat
2) bottom cowling
3) front cowling inner panels
4) left side cowling
5) windshield
• Troubleshoot with the following spe-

cial tool(-s).

• The radiator fan motor fails to turn.
• The coolant temperature meter needle

fails to move when the engine is warm.

1.Main, signal system and radiator fan

motor fuses

• Check the main, signal system, and radi-

ator fan motor fuses for continuity.
Refer to “CHECKING THE FUSES” in
chapter 3.

• Are the main, signal system, and radia-

tor fan motor fuses OK?

Replace the fuse(-s).

2.Battery

• Check the condition of the battery.

Refer to “CHECKING AND CHARGING
THE BATTERY” in chapter 3.

Open-circuit voltage

12.8 V or more at 20 ˚C (68 ˚F)

YES

• Is the battery OK?

• Clean the battery

terminals.

• Recharge or

replace the battery.

3.Main switch

• Check the main switch for continuity.

Refer to “CHECKING THE SWITCHES”.

• Is the main switch OK?

Replace the main
switch.

4.Radiator fan motor (test 1)

• Disconnect the radiator fan motor cou-

pler from the wire harness.

• Connect the battery (12 V) as shown.

• Does the radiator fan motor turn?

must be replaced.
