2. Remove the frame neck cover as described in
Chapter Fourteen.
3. Disconnect the left handlebar switch white
six-pin connector (A,
Figure 96
) and the blue
six-pin connector (B) from their harness mates.
4. Remove the mounting screw (
Figure 97
) and re-
move the bottom cover from the handlebar switch.
5. Disconnect the choke cable end (
Figure 98
)
from the choke lever.
6. Note how the switch cable is routed along the
handlebar and through the fork legs. Release end
clamps or cable ties that secure the switch cable to
the motorcycle.
7. Remove the screws (
Figure 99
) and separate the
housing halves from the handlebar.
8. Remove the switch housing and wiring cable.
9. Installation is the reverse of these steps. Note the
following:
a. Position the switch assembly so the edge of
the switch half mating surface (A,
Figure

) aligns with the index mark (B) on the
handlebar.
b. Apply a dielectric grease to the electrical con-
nector prior to reconnecting it.
c. Make sure the electrical connectors are free
of corrosion and the two sides are securely
connected to each other.
d. Adjust the choke cable free play as described
in Chapter Three.
Right Handlebar Switch Replacement
1. Remove the fuel tank as described in Chapter
Eight.
2. Remove the frame neck cover as described in
Chapter Fourteen.
3. Disconnect the right handlebar switch black
six-pin connector (C,
Figure 96
) from its harness
mate.
4. Disconnect the two spade connectors (A,
Figure
101
) from the front brake switch.
5. Remove the cable ties that secure the switch ca-
ble to the motorcycle. Also note how the cable is
routed. It must be rerouted along the same path.
6. Remove the screw that secures the pull cable to
the switch housing.
7. Remove the two switch assembly screws (
Fig-
ure 102
) and separate the halves of the switch as-
sembly from the handlebar.
