4. Install a new O-ring and the reservoir cap

, and then tighten the reservoir cap

to the specified torque.
Checking the PTT operation
1. Fully tilt the outboard motor up and down
a few times and check that the outboard
motor tilts up and down smoothly. Check
the PTT fluid level if the tilt operation is
not smooth.
2. Check the PTT unit for fluid leakage.
Checking propeller
1. Check the propeller. See “Checking the
propeller” (8-3).
Adjusting the shift cable
1. Disconnect the shift cable, and then
adjust it. See “Installing the shift cable
and throttle cable” (3-9).
Cleaning and adjusting spark plug
1. Check the spark plug. See “Checking the
spark plug” (7-44).
Checking the timing belt
1. Check the timing belt. See “Checking the
timing belt” (7-39).
Replacing the timing belt
1. Reduce the fuel pressure. See “Reduc-
ing the fuel pressure” (6-7).
2. Disconnect the quick connectors, and
then remove the high-pressure fuel hose

3. Remove the intake silencer. See steps

4. Removing the flywheel magnet and sta-

5. Remove the fuel rail covers.
6. Remove the wiring harness guide. See

7. Remove the timing belt. See steps 6–10

8. Install a new timing belt. See steps 2–10
in “Installing the timing belt” (7-39).
9. Install the wiring harness guide. See

10. Install the fuel rail covers.
11. Install the stator assembly and flywheel
magnet. See “Installing the flywheel
magnet” (7-17).
12. Install the intake silencer. See “Installing
the intake silencer” (6-19).
13. Install the high-pressure fuel hose
assembly, and then connect the quick
connectors. See “Connecting the quick
connector” (6-8).
Checking the thermostat
1. Check the thermostat. See “Checking the

Adjusting the throttle cable
1. Adjust the throttle cable. See “Installing

Checking the top cowling
1. Check the fitting by pushing the top cowl-
ing. Adjust if there is free play.
