Assembling the propeller shaft
housing assembly
• Use heat-resistant gloves. Otherwise,
burns could result.
• To prevent fires, remove any flammable
substances, such as gasoline and oil,
around the working area.
• Keep good ventilation while working.
Do not reuse a bearing or oil seal, always
replace it with a new one.
1. Install a new needle bearing

to the
specified depth

TIP:
• Face the bearing identification mark

on
the needle bearing 1 toward the propeller
side.
• When using the special service tool

, do
not strike it in a manner that will force the
stopper

out of place.
2. Install new oil seals into the propeller
shaft housing to the specified depth

.
TIP:
Install an oil seal halfway into the propeller
shaft housing, and then install the other oil
seal.
3. Install a new ball bearing

and original
reverse gear shims

TIP:
• Do not reuse a shim if deformed or
scratched.
• Face the bearing identification mark

on
the ball bearing 6 toward the propeller
side.
