Checking the cylinder block anode
1. Check the anodes. Replace if eroded.
Clean if there is grease, oil, or scales.
NOTICE: Do not apply grease, oil, or
paint to the anodes.
Assembling the cylinder block
Before assembling the cylinder block, check
the crankcase bolts. See “Checking the
crankcase bolt” (7-89).
Do not reuse a connecting rod bolt, collar,
gasket, oil seal, O-ring, or piston pin clip,
always replace it with a new one.
1. Install a new collar

by striking it using
a plastic hammer.
2. Assemble the piston 2 , the connecting
rod

, the piston pin 3 , and new piston
pin clips 4 .
TIP:
• Face the protrusion

on the connecting
rod

in the same direction as the mark

on the piston crown.
• Do not align the piston pin clip end with the
groove

in the piston pin boss.
3. Install the oil rings

top ring

4. Offset the piston ring end gaps. NOTICE:
Be careful not to scratch the pistons
or break the piston rings.
TIP:
• Make sure that the “2R” mark

on the 2nd
ring

and “R” mark

on the top ring

are facing up.
• Make sure that the piston rings move
smoothly.
5. Install the crankpin bearings 5 into the
connecting rod
