For proper surround sound, make sure the speakers and
subwoofer are connected to this receiver (see “Connecting the
subwoofer” on page 12).

Using the Virtual Surround
function
Turning the Virtual Surround function
on/off
This function allows you to convert 2.1 channel sound to
virtual 5.1 channel surround sound.
Press
SURROUND
on the remote control to enable the
Virtual Surround function.
→
“SURR ON” appears.
To disable the Virtual Surround function
Press
SURROUND
again.
→
“SURR OFF” appears.
Changing the Virtual Surround area
This function is used to change the Virtual Surround area
setting.
With Virtual Surround activated, press
AREA
on the
remote control to select the Virtual Surround area.
NARROW
Select this to sharpen the sound field. The optimal
listening area will be limited.
WIDE
Select this to widen the optimal listening area. The
sound field will be less focused.
Changing the Virtual Surround mode
This function is used to change the Virtual Surround mode
setting.
With Virtual Surround activated, press
MODE
on the
remote control to select the Virtual Surround mode.
MUSIC
Select this for music content.
MOVIE
Select this for movie content.
Adjusting the sound balance
This function adjusts the sound balance according to your
listening position to optimize the Virtual Surround effect.

With Virtual Surround activated, press and hold
SURROUND
on the remote control.

“POS CENT” appears.

Within three seconds, press
VOLUME (+/–)
to adjust
the sound balance (POS L6, POS L5, POS L4, POS
L3, POS L2, POS L1, POS CENT, POS R1, POS R2,
POS R3, POS R4, POS R5 or POS R6).
→
If the volume control is not used within three
seconds, it will resume its normal volume control
function.
The selected sound balance automatically returns to “POS
CENT” when you turn off the DVD receiver.

Setting music enhancer
This function enhances your listening experience by
regenerating the missing harmonics in a compression
artifact.
Press
ENHANCER
on the remote control to enable the
music enhancer.
→
“ENH ON” appears.
To disable the music enhancer function
Press
ENHANCER
again.
→
“ENH OFF” appears.
– The night listening mode and the music enhancer
cannot be activated at the same time.
– When the CD upsampling function is activated (or
a disc recorded at the sampling rate of 96 kHz is
played back), the music enhancer function is not
available.
