Setting The Arpeggia tor Tem po
Set the [EDIT RO TARY] switch to VO ICE CO MMO N and
press Tempo [UP/ DO W N ] to set the tempo o f the
Arpeg g iato r in BPM (Beats Per Minute).
If yo u want the clo ck o f an external MIDI sequencer o r drum
machine to co ntro l the AN 1 x’s tempo , then set the Tempo to
“ MIDI” (the first value lo cated befo re “ 4 0 ” ) so that the two
devices will play in synchro niz atio n with each o ther.
Arpe ggi o Hold Functi on
Pressing Ho ld [UP/ DO W N ] lets yo u turn the Arpeg g io
Ho ld functio n o n and o ff. W hen Ho ld is set to " o n" ,
" HO LD" will appear in reverse type in the lo wer rig ht
co rner o f the LCD. After trig g ering the Arpeg g iato r by
playing the keybo ard, the arpeg g io will co ntinue playing
auto matically when yo u release the keys, until yo u switch
the Ho ld setting to " o ff" , o r press [ARPEG G IO / SEQ ] to
sto p the Arpeg g iato r. W hen set to " o ff" , the Arpeg g iato r
will sto p when yo u release the keys.
The Arpeg g io Ho ld functio n is especially useful during live
perfo rmances when the Layer mo de is set to “ SPLIT” and
Keybo ard Mo de is set to “ chrd&no rm” (see pag e 3 5 ),
since yo u can trig g er the arpeg g io with no tes to the left o f
the Split Po int, and use bo th hands to play cho rds o r fills to
the rig ht. Arpeg g io Ho ld is also handy when trying o ut
different Arpeg g iato r Types o r Subdivide setting s, and is
literally indispensable fo r tweaking the to ne g enerato r
parameters fo r yo ur arpeg g io s with the CO N TRO L kno bs.

The 3 0 arpeg g io pattern Types are selected by pressing
Type/ N o [UP/ DO W N ]. The available Types are basically
divided into two g ro ups, separated cho rds (Types 1 -1 5 ),
and special arpeg g io s (Types 1 6 -3 0 ).
Types 1 -1 5 separate the cho rds yo u play in a variety o f
ways, either g enerating arpeg g io s which o ccur up, do wn,
up and do wn, o r rando mly— o ver o ne, two o r fo ur
o ctaves. Types 1 6 -3 0 are special types which vary in to ne
o r add subtle shifts o r mo re co mplex dynamics and
rhythmic elements to the arpeg g io .
