Fo llo wing is an o verview o f the key pro cedures required to

build up yo ur o wn vo ices fro m scratch. Fo r step-by-step

examples o f ho w to create specific types o f vo ices,

including analo g synth classics like Synth Bass and Synth

Brass, as well as traditio nal Electro nic O rg an and Electric

Piano vo ices and mo re, see pag e 1 0 1 .

By editing the to ne g enerato r parameters yo u can

determine the fundamental characteristics o f the vo ice.

These are accessed by pressing a KN O B PARAMETER

G RO UP switch and turning specific CO N TRO L kno bs.

There are fo ur key steps in the pro cess o f editing the

to ne g enerato r parameters, as fo llo ws:

1 . V CO edit to select the funda m enta l

w a veform a nd determ ine the pitch

2 . V CF edit to a pply filtering a nd determ ine

the tone, or tim bre

3 . V CA edit to a pply a m plifica tion to the voice

4 . LFO edit to a pply m odula tion to the V CO ,

Tone generator parameter editing affects the selected Scene ( loaded in the Scene

edit buffer) or the Scene Control sound ( in the Scene Control buffer) . For details,

see page 2 0 .

Certain panel parameters apply to individual Scenes or both Scenes equally for the

voice. For details about each menu and available parameters, see page 7 2 .

1 . V CO Edi t

Pressing the [VCO 1 ] KN O B PARAMETER G RO UP

switch g ives yo u access to the main vo ltag e co ntro lled

o scillato r parameters, which let yo u select the basic

wavefo rm and determine the fundamental pitch o f the

so und. Pressing the [VCO 2 ] switch g ives yo u access to

the seco nd o scillato r, which co ntains the same set o f

parameters as VCO 1 , and lets yo u add extra

dimensio n to the vo ice.

No sound will be produced if the VCO1 Level or VCO2 Level settings in the

[ MIX/ VCF] group are too low.

By turning CO N TRO L kno b 1 yo u can select the

wavefo rm fo r the VCO 1 o scillato r— fro m a list which

includes sawto o th, square (pulse) and a variety o f

o thers— which determines the fundamental

characteristics o f the vo ice.

Pi t ch A nd Fi ne

By turning CO N TRO L kno bs 2 (Pitch) and 3 (Fine) yo u

can determine the fundamental pitch o f the wave.

Using bo th o scillato rs yo u can slig htly “ detune” the

pitch o f each with the Fine parameter to fatten the

so und, o r create intervals by setting different Pitch

parameters fo r each.

Depth to create a vibrato effect. O ther parameters let

yo u apply mo dulatio n to the pulse width with the LFO 1

and o ther waves.
