REMOVING THE CYLINDER HEAD

1. Remove:

• Cylinder bolt (M6) (

×

2)

• Cylinder head bolt (M6) (

×

2)

• Cylinder head bolt (M11) (

×

4)

• Cylinder head

TIP

• Loosen the bolts in the proper sequence as

shown.

• Loosen each bolt 1/2 of a turn at a time. After

all of the bolts are fully loosened, remove them.

• M6

×

25 mm: “1”–“4”

• M11

×

208 mm: “5”–“8”

REMOVING THE PISTON

1. Remove:

• Piston pin clips “1”
• Piston pin “2”
• Piston “3”

NOTICE

ECB01380

Do not use a hammer to drive the piston pin
out.

TIP

• Before removing the piston pin clips, cover the

crankcase opening with a clean rag to prevent
the piston pin clips from falling into the crank-
case.

• Before removing the piston pin, deburr the pis-

ton pin clip grooves and the piston pin bore ar-
ea. If both areas are deburred and the piston
pin is still difficult to remove, remove it with the
piston pin puller set “4”.

• Remove the piston pin from the side of the pis-

ton that has the manufacturer’s mark “a”.

2. Remove:

• Top ring
• 2nd ring
• Oil ring

TIP

When removing a piston ring, open the end gap
with your fingers and lift the other side of the ring
over the piston crown.
