4 HHD Process Routes
Once AutoRead has been installed and configured to link to your particular billing package,
the day-to-day procedures of loading your reading devices and unloading the meter reads
can be performed.
Load Routes into a HHD
The first step in loading a HHD will always be done in the specific billing program that you
use. The first step is to create a route file containing the meters that need to be read.
1.
Create a Route File
.
The first step in the process of loading a HHD is to create a Route File in the billing
program. A route file consists of the list of meters to be read. If the billing program
resides on a mainframe computer, there will also be a process required to transfer
the file from the mainframe computer to the PC. These steps vary depending on your
particular billing software, so please contact your billing system's technical support for
the appropriate steps.
2.
Open the AutoRead Program
.
After the route file is created, open the AutoRead application by double clicking on the
AutoRead icon on the Windows desktop. In most cases, AutoRead will open directly
to the Process Routes screen. This is the screen where most, if not all, of the daily
procedures are performed.
a) Click
View
in the menu bar, and use the drop-down menu to select
Routes
and
then
Process
.
By default, AutoRead will start in the Handheld protocol.
The HHD routes display on the right portion of the screen. If the HHD routes are not
displayed on the right half of the screen, click
Handheld
in the Tree View, just under
the item labeled Route Processing.
