Sharing indexes in a networked environment
In a networked environment, an entire organization can use
Pagis tools to share documents and indexes stored on networked
file servers.
Typically, one person in the organization is assigned to update
the indexes on the file server(s) periodically. Or the indexes can
be configured to be updated automatically.
Provided all users have the necessary file permissions, they will
be able to access, even modify or add to, the documents on the file
server. With Pagis tools, they can attach to the index of
documents on the server, and search for these documents.
Following are the tasks required to share indexes in a networked
environment:
In Windows, make sure the file server is available under Network
Neighborhood. For example:
\\Share_Volume1
On the file server, specify the shared folder to which other users
can have access, for example:
\\Share_Volume1\Shared Documents
Before you create the index, map the folder that contains the
documents and, eventually, the index to a specific drive letter.
For example:
S:\
Now, create the index.
Users who will be sharing the documents and index must map
this shared folder on their systems, as well.
Finally, network users can attach their Pagis Index Manager to
the file server’s index. This will allow their Search Tool to find
documents on the file server.
Consult the next section for information about the Search Tool.
