RAP 2.3: Unloaded Power
Supply DC Voltage Check
See Parts List 3.1
This RAP tests the power supply without
being connected to the main circuit board
or scanner motor.
If the Power Supply DC Voltage Check
RAP resulted in out of specification
voltages, and this RAP results in all
voltages being within specifications, then
you will need to perform the RAP 2.4:
Power Supply Loading on page 2-15 in
order to isolate the subsystem that is
causing the problem.
1. Remove the 4 screws that attach
the power supply to the chassis.
2. Carefully disconnect power supply
connectors CN2 and CN3 from main
board connectors CN9 and CN6. Set
on a static free surface.
note
WARNING! Do not place the
power supply on the metal
surface covering the ink waste
pads!
3. Apply power to the machine.
note
WARNING! There are exposed
areas of high voltage on the
power supply. Use caution when
working in this area with the
multimeter probes.
4. Using a multimeter, place the Common lead on the GND test point,
and the positive lead on the +5 VDC test point. See Figure 2-3 for test point
locations.
Make a note of the voltage reading.
5. Place the Common lead on the GND test point,
and the positive lead on the +41.7 VDC test point.
Make a note of the voltage reading.
6. Place the Common lead on the GND test point,
and the positive lead on the +12 VDC test point.
Make a note of the voltage reading.
7. Place the Common lead on the GND test point,
and the positive lead on the -12 VDC test point.
Make a note of the voltage reading.
8. Review the voltage tolerance table below and
compare with your readings.
Result: All voltages are within tolerances?
No:
Replace the power supply.
Yes:
There is no problem with the power supply. The out-of
tolerance voltage readings you encountered in
RAP 2.2: Power Supply DC Voltage Check on page 2-12
may be a result of a problem with a circuit board or motor.
To isolate this problem, go to
RAP 2.4: Power Supply Loading on page 2-15.
