WARNING!
Ensure the steel fingers inside the sawdust chute are in
place before operating the sawmill. Failure to have these fingers in
place may result in serious injury or death.
The steel fingers have been designed to help prevent a broken blade
or some other object from becoming a projectile and exiting the saw
-
dust chute.
Remove sawdust buildup from rope feed pulleys and up/down chain sprockets as neces
-
sary.
6.5 Mast Track, Wipers, & Scrapers
WARNING!
Turn the key switch to the OFF (0) position and remove
the key before performing service near moving parts such as blades,
pulleys, motors, belts, and chains. If the key is turned on and moving
parts activated, serious injury or death may result.
Properly maintaining the sawmill mast track is critical in preventing corrosion that can
cause pitting and scaling on the rail surfaces. Pitted and scaled surfaces can, in turn,
cause rough cuts or jerky feed movement.
1.
Clean track rails to remove any sawdust and sap buildup every eight hours of operation.
Use a light-grade sandpaper or emery cloth to sand off any rust or other adhering parti
-
cles from the rails.
CAUTION!
Keep track rails free of rust. Formation of rust on the track
rail in the areas where the cam bearings roll can cause rapid deteriora
-
tion of the track rail's surface.
2.
Lubricate the rails by wiping them with Dexron III ATF transmission fluid.
Lubrication will help protect the rails from corrosive elements such as acid rain and/or
moisture from nearby bodies of saltwater (if applicable). This lubrication is essential to
maintain the integrity of the track rails and track rollers and to achieve long service life.
3.
Remove sawdust from the track roller housings and brush any sawdust buildup from the
housings every twenty-five hours of operation.
4.
Check the track scrapers (2 per track roller housing) for a firm fit against the rail.
If a track scraper needs to be adjusted, loosen the screw, push the scraper downward
until it fits firmly against the rail, and retighten the screw.
