ActiveScale™ P100 Support Guide

• The public network must have adequate ports to make all the necessary connections.
• Multi-site systems must have enough space to accommodate the multi-site scale up kits. This means
that each site must have rack space for a matching scale up.
• If you have ordered two multi-site scale up kits, only scale one location at a time. Scaling up with two
kits simultaneously results in local link IP conflict because scale up kits are factory installed to be
identical.
• If a scale up or scale out job is already in progress, wait until the current job is complete to start the
multi-site scale up job.
5.4 Cabling multi-site systems
Install the transceivers in the multi-site kits, then cable ports 47 and 48 of the System Interconnects to the
WAN. If you have scaled up the ActiveScale P100 with a second column of storage, also connect port 45 to
the WAN. If you have scaled up the ActiveScale P100 with a third column of storage, also connect port 46
to the WAN.
5.5 Software steps for a multi-site scale up addition
Scaling up
allows you to expand the capacity of your system by adding a new column (in other words, a
scale up kit) to each system in your deployment. Each system must have identical scale up and scale out
configurations. Follow this procedure after you have completed the hardware steps for a
single
scale up kit
at each site
. For hardware steps, see the
ActiveScale P100/ActiveScale X100 Installation Guide
.
At this point, all nodes in the new scale up kit have link-local IP addresses and ActiveScale OS preinstalled
on them.
Warning:
This section applies to multi-site deployments only.
Multi-site scale up kits are different from single site scale up kits. Ensure that
you have the right type of scale up kit for your deployment. Do not attempt to
convert a scale up kit from single/multi to multi/single site.
Important:
The system must be in a stable state before scaling up. The scale up
job checks data safety levels when it starts. If the system is freshly installed, or if
you just completed an initial scale up, wait 10-15 minutes for the system to
stabilize and start recording data safety levels. This is particularly important if
you purchased multiple columns for an initial install. Systems that have been
running for some time may have a data safety issue as reported in ActiveScale
SM You must resolve any data safety issues before attempting to scale up. If the
