teries, per company practice or per the steps below. The total
battery weight should not exceed 35 pounds. If heavier batter
ies are needed, order and use either the BXB05V‐PM3 or the
BXB05V‐WH1 kits. See the drawings at the end of this docu
ment in Appendix A for battery box dimensions.
1.
Select batteries.
Select the appropriate size and type of
batteries per company practice and per the equipment re
quirements.
2.
Install the optional battery heater pad.
If not already in
stalled, install the optional battery heater pad. See
Paragraph 3.7.1.
3.
Install the battery retainer strap.
If not already installed,
pre‐install the provided battery strap. See Paragraph 3.7.3.
4.
Place batteries in the battery compartment.
Gently place
the batteries in the battery compartment, on top of the op
tional installed heater pad. Press the batteries up against
the left and rear compartment walls. Do not place a battery
on the heater pad cable or connector, to avoid possible
cable damage.
5.
Secure the batteries to the battery box.
Connect the ends
of the pre‐installed (see Paragraph 3.7.3) battery strap to
gether and tighten the strap, to snug the batteries up
against the rear wall of the compartment. Examine the
strap to verify there is no strap kinking, binding, or slack.
Verify the optional battery heater pad is still lying flat and
not kinked or wrinkled after tightening the batteries, and
verify the batteries are not compressing the heater pad's
cable or connector.
6.
Jumper the batteries together.
Jumper the batteries to
gether, per company practice.
7.
Connect battery cable connectors to batteries.
In the bat
tery box, locate Connectors A and B of the battery cable
(see Figure 17) and connect them to the proper battery
terminals, per company practice.
8.
Make battery compartment temperature sensor connec
tions.
Locate the battery box's temperature sensor cable
(install it if not pre‐installed with the batteries) and con
nect it to Connector D of the battery cable.
9.
Connect DC leads to screw terminals of battery charger
(user provided).
Locate the battery cable's DC leads (G
and H in Figure 17) and connect them to the screw termi
nals of the battery charger's DC screw terminal strip, per
company practice. Connect the red positive lead to the +V
screw terminal, and connect the black negative lead to the
‐V terminal.
3.8
Testing the Battery Box Connections
Perform system power‐up per company practice or per the in
structions in the main Boxer cabinet documentation. If trouble
is encountered, verify all battery cable connections are secure
and tight and have good contact or connection.
3.9
Closing and Locking the Cabinets
Upon completion, the installer should replace the door panel
of the battery box then lock the battery box by turning the latch
then tightening the cup‐washer screw with a can wrench or 216
tool. The main Boxer cabinet should also be locked in similar
fashion. Both cabinets can additionally be secured with a pad
lock (customer supplied) via a hole provided in the provided
cylindrical locking mechanism. Pick up any tools and materials
at the installation site, and clean the site of any trash or debris.
4.
MAINTENANCE
‐ CAUTION ‐
To avoid electrical shock, turn off any DC or AC power feeds
before servicing the unit.
4.1
Replacing the Battery Cable
If the battery cable is not working properly, it can be replaced
by disconnecting it and installing a new one. See Table 4 for or
