During FVC testing, the two most important parameters in determining lung problems are
FVC and FEV1. (For a description of how the automatic interpretation software uses these
two measurements to determine the degree of obstruction or restriction, see
“Understanding Your Interpretation Results”

FVC
— forced vital capacity, the maximum volume of air that can be forcibly and
rapidly exhaled
•
FEV1
— forced expiratory volume 1, the volume of air that is exhaled at one
second of a forced expiration

VT
— tidal volume
•
ERV
— expiratory reserve volume
•
IC
— inspiratory capacity
