Charging

The capacity and life of batteries mainly depend on the 
correct handling. Therefore, please observe the tips be-
low:

You should charge both batteries (internal fixed battery 
and swappable battery) in the following cases:

●

before the initial startup,

●

after a storage time of 3 months or longer,

●

after not having charged the internal fixed battery with 
the power supply for 3 month or longer,

●

after frequent partial discharge.

For information on operating the USM 100 with re-
chargeable batteries, see from page 48 onward.

Logic of battery charging and discharging

Batteries in the USM 100

The USM 100 contains two batteries. The first battery is 
a fixed battery. It is inside the instrument and can only 
be charged using the power supply of the USM 100. The 
second battery is a swappable battery, that can be hot 
swapped during the operation of the instrument. It can 
be charged using the power supply of the USM 100 or, 
after removal, with the external charger.

For inspections you have several possibilities to extend 
the operating time of the instrument:

●

You can operate the instrument and charge both bat-
teries (internal, and second if inserted) at the same 
time (see page 46). 

●

You can prepare several fully charged batteries and 
swap the used-out battery during the operation to ex-
tend the operating time.
