Setting the Volume Controls

7.2.1

Connect a Laptop to the Device Controller Board

The Device Controller (DC) Board is located under the Control Panel inside the HPSA-
7100-R electronics cabinet.

1. At the

HPSA-7100-R

, open the electronics cabinet door.

2. Connect the

female end

of the serial port cable to the serial port on the

laptop

.

3. Connect the

male end

to the serial port located at the furthest right edge of the

DC

Board

,

P3

. P3 is the DB-9 connector farthest from the RJ-45 connector. The DC

Board is the closest board to the HPSA’s rear bulkhead.

7.2.2

Prepare HyperTerminal

Before configuring the Volume Controls, a terminal emulation program, such as
HyperTerminal

®

, must be set up. If HyperTerminal is not installed on the laptop, the

appropriate Windows

®

CD or windows.cab files are needed or an alternate terminal

emulation application should be installed.

7.2.2.1

Install HyperTerminal

1. From the

laptop

, access the

Control Panel menu

.

2. On the Control Panel menu, double-click

Add or Remove Programs

.

3. On the Add/Remove Programs menu, select the

Windows Setup

tab.

4. On the Windows Setup tab menu, select

Communications

and press the

Details

button.

5. Select the checkbox for

HyperTerminal

.

6. Click

OK

and then click

OK

again.

If the optional MIC Panel is installed, temporarily remove the MIC panel to
allow access to the Controller DC Board for connection of the serial cable.

Connect cable to
right-side serial
port on DC board
(under and
behind the
Control Panel).

HyperTerminal

is a Microsoft

®

application that is available on the Windows

XP

®

Operating System (OS). If a newer Windows OS is being used, another

terminal emulation application must be obtained. Other free-ware
applications are available via the Internet. Contact Cooper Notification
Customer Satisfaction if further assistance is required.
