4.7.1 Closing the source isolation valve

To close the source isolation valve before starting a maintenance procedure:

Warning:

To avoid personal contamination with biohazards, toxic materials, and corrosive

materials, wear chemical-resistant gloves when performing this procedure.

1.

Prepare the instrument for working on the source (see

Preparing the instrument for working

on the source

).

Warning:

To avoid burn injuries, take great care while working with the source

enclosure open.

Warning:

To avoid puncture wounds, take great care working with the source

enclosure open if one or both of these conditions apply:

• An ESI probe is fitted (the probe’s tip is sharp).

• A corona pin is fitted (the pin’s tip is sharp).

2.

Pull the source enclosure release (located at the bottom, right-hand side) outwards, and
swing open the enclosure.

3.

Close the source isolation valve by turning its handle counterclockwise, to the vertical
position.
