Maintenance Procedures
Operating the source isolation valve
You must close the source isolation valve to isolate the source from the
instrument vacuum system for certain maintenance procedures.
Required materials
Chemical-resistant, powder-free gloves
To close the source isolation valve before starting a maintenance
procedure:
1. Prepare the instrument for working on the source (see
2. Pull the source enclosure release (located at the bottom, right-hand side)
outwards, and swing open the enclosure.
Warning:
The source components can be contaminated with
biohazardous and/or toxic materials. Always wear
chemical-resistant, powder-free gloves while performing this
procedure.
Warning:
To avoid electric shock, ensure that the instrument is suitably
prepared before commencing this procedure.
Warning:
The source can be hot. To avoid burn injuries, take great
care while working with the instrument’s source enclosure open.
Warning:
To avoid puncture wounds, take great care while
working with the source enclosure open if one or both of these
conditions apply:
• An ESI probe is fitted (the probe tip is sharp).
• A corona pin is fitted (the pin tip is sharp).
