X-ray source does not function. Stepping off the safety mat during a scan immediately stops X-
ray generation.
Tools: Multimeter
To verify the safety mat connectors, proceed as follows:
1. Unplug the mat from the scanner by pressing the release button to unlock the plug.
2. Check the pins on the connector using a multimeter while standing on the mat.
There should be a short (low value of ohms) across two of the pins. Stepping off
the mat shows an infinite value across the pins.
3. Verify the connector at the scanner has 12 VDC using the multimeter.
o
(1) ensure the front and back access panels are securely set in their locking
sockets thereby depressing the shaft of the interlock switch; or
o
(2) with the access panel doors off, fully extend the shaft for the interlock
switch.
4. Reconnect the mat and stand on the mat to see if this clears the interlock message on the
Operator screen.
If the mat is faulty and there is not a functional mat available, as a temporary
measure use the bypass connector. This will complete the 12VDC circuit and
allow the machine to continue to operate.
This test ensures the mat is functional; however, one of the interlock switches may be
defective if the interlock message remains on the Operator screen.
5.2.5 Check the Interlock Switches
An interlock message appears on the operator screen if the access panel
doors are not correctly seated in their locking slots. The interlock switches are
extremely sensitive and a gap could be preventing the interlock switch from
closing.

The interlock switches are in series, therefore, all interlock switches must be checked.
