Coolant Level, Checking and
Topping Up
Check
The coolant level should be about 5 cm (2”) below the
pressure cap sealing plane in the expansion tank.
There is a low coolant level alarm installed as standard,
but make sure to check the coolant level anyway every
once in a while.
If a separate expansion tank is installed, the coolant
level must be between the MAX and MIN markings.
Topping up
IMPORTANT:
Always use the same type of coolant that is already in
the engine.
Different types of coolant must not be mixed with each
other.
Risk of reduced cooling function and performance by
clogging and isolation.
Fill the freshwater system with coolant to the correct
level through the filler opening in the expansion tank.
For correct level, refer to section
Check
. Fill slowly so
that evacuated air is able to pass the filler opening.
For coolant specification, refer to
Filling when the system is empty
1 Make sure that systems connected to the cooling
system are ventilated, e.g. heater, water heater.
2 Fill the system with coolant through the filler
opening in the expansion tank. Fill slowly allowing
air to bleed from the filler opening. For correct level,
refer to section
Check
.
3 Start the engine and let it idle for about 1 hour.
IMPORTANT:
Never run the engine under full load before the
system has been bled and topped up.
4 Check air vents for leakage.
5 Stop the engine and allow it to cool. Check the
coolant level and top up if needed.
