System of stabilisation straps
Preparing the wheelchair
Transporting the wheelchair
Stabilisation straps are used to stabilise the body and limbs when moving forwards
and when moving to an upright position. They do not stand as protection in case of
possible collision. Before initialising the verticalization process, it is crucial to check if
all straps are properly tightened.
The wheelchair is delivered in a cardboard package, and its delicate parts are addition-
ally secured against damage during transport. Unpack the wheelchair very carefully,
to avoid any damage.
The wheelchair should be transported only by means adapted for this purpose. During
transport, it should be secured with straps fastened at the places marked with a blue
sticker (in the figure opposite, the hitching places are marked with wheels). The wheels
should be locked. It is forbidden to stay in a wheelchair during transport, it risks falling
and serious injuries. The wheelchair must not be transported by means that are not
suitable for this purpose - they do not have a special fastening
system, as this risks damaging the wheelchair. Always Ensure
that the wheelchair is properly secured in the means of trans-
port, otherwise, it can cause injury to the people moving on
the means of transport as well as serious damage to the means
of transport itself.
When driving up the ramp to the transporting means, a back
belay should be provided to protect the wheelchair from tip-
ping over.
All additional elements of the wheelchair should be removed from the wheelchair for
the duration of transport or they should be securely attached to the
wheelchair, making sure that these elements do not cause injury
or damage during sudden braking. In order to reduce the size of
the wheelchair during transport, you can do two following actions:
• lift the footrest
• fold the backrest as shown on the illustration
WARNING!
Remember to properly fasten knee, chest and hip stabilisation straps before
moving to the upright standing position.
• Regulate muscle tension (prevent spasticity).
• Reduce the risk of osteoporosis (minimise calcium extraction from bones).
• Reduce the risk of decubitus ulcers.
• Increase the feeling of independence when performing activities of daily living
(positive psychological aspect).
