5.10.4.2 Manual Configuration
Prior to controlling it from the NMS only a few parameters have to be
appropriately set. Those parameters are the LAN port IP addresses and
some algorithm parameters. To set those, the operator must use M&C
Telnet server:
1. Telnet to the MCD M&C or use the front panel serial port. If
using serial port the username and password are not needed,
for Telnet login appropriately.
2. At the console prompt use the following commands to set the IP
addresses of the unit:
->cdbm_set_lan_if_ipaddr_str 0, 0, "a.b.c.d"
Set the active M&C Lan 1 IP address to a.b.c.d
->cdbm_set_lan_if_ipaddr_str 0, 1, "a.b.c.d"
Set the active M&C Lan 2 IP address to a.b.c.d
->cdbm_set_lan_if_ipaddr_str 1, 0, "a.b.c.d"
Set the standby M&C Lan 1 IP address to a.b.c.d
->cdbm_set_lan_if_ipaddr_str 1, 1, "a.b.c.d"
Set the standby M&C Lan 2 IP address to a.b.c.d
where “a.b.c.d” are appropriate IP addresses.
3. Set some other parameters that currently cannot be set remotely
via the NMS:
-> cdbm_set_algo_leader_vci <vci_num>
(vci_num is a hex number, e.g. 0x0201)
-> cdbm_set_algo_cc_enable 1
(to enable congestion control processing)
5.10.5 Operation
5.10.5.1 MCD M&C Management Serial Port
Use the supplied special serial cable to connect a KVM Switch to the
M&C card located in physical slot 8 of the MCD. Any KVM switch may
be used as long as it supports an RS-232 15-pin DIN connector or some
adapter from that connector. The 15-pin DIN connector of the special
cable attaches to the serial module of the KVM Switch which then
attaches to one of the KVM switch ports. The miniature 9-pin DIN
connector attaches to the ‘MONITOR’ interface on the front of the M&C
module. The M&C in physical slot 8 will assume the active role on
initial power up.
Configure the KVM Switch serial port for 9600 baud, no parity, 8 data
bits, and 1 stop bit to complete the connection to the M&C.
5.10.5.2 MCD Power On
Use the power switch located on the rear of the MCD chassis to turn on
power. Upon power-up the M&C module will perform a self-test, the
results of which can be seen over the M&C management serial port in
